The Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies was established under Companies And Allied Matters Decree 1 of 1990 of Federal Republic of Nigeria as a professional, educational and regulatory body poised to train, educate and research into crimes and criminality with the aim to curb criminal acts and tendencies in the society.

ICSS was officially registered and approved by Federal Ministry of Justice, Federal Ministry of Education and Corporate Affairs Commission with Registration Number 1050216.

The Institute decided to bring together professionals from various institutions to form a centre where criminology can truly be taught, learned and researched.
